Is It Worth It? Elemis Superfood Glow Priming Moisturiser Review – Used On Combination, Spot Prone Skin

This is now the 4th Elemis product I’ve tried. I adore their Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm which has become an essential for me, and their Superfood Midnight Facial Sleeping Cream is becoming another product I will absolutely seek to replace once my two minis are gone. Their Superfood Cleansing Balm didn’t do it for me and truth be told I expected to hate this product. I’ve been trying out a 20ml mini of this which I got in a Sephora Beauty Box before the service closed.

I developed adult acne in my early twenties. These days my skin is combination, spot prone and until last year I absolutely defaulted to mattifying products through and through. Be that skincare or makeup. I was terrified that applying any form of dewy or glowy finish would make me look like a greasy oil slick, but it turns out I was so wrong.

Elemis Superfood Glow Priming Moisturiser – RRP £46 for 60ml

One thing I learnt as I gradually began exploring glowy finish products was that they’re actually far more realistic for my skin. No matter what I did with mattifying products my forehead would always end up shinier through the day than my “normal” skinned cheeks. Applying a glowy product all over my face, with a dusting of mattifying powder across my forehead means that through the day my face altogether looks more consistent, even and healthy.

This moisturiser is initially a pale peach colour and it does look shimmery. It feels lightweight on the skin without being tacky and it hasn’t pilled with any of my other products. Once applied I like to think it gives my skin a healthy, almost “I’ve been on holiday” type glow without any bronzing effect. If you look incredibly closely it does almost look a little glittery but realistically no one is going to be getting that close to my face through the day! The minor glittery effect that gives the glow is gold.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this, but I really do. A good way for me to tell if I really like a product if when I feel inclined to open another in the same category to make the former last longer which is exactly what has happened here. I won’t use this on days I plan to just mooch around the house, I’d prefer to save it for days where I want to go out with a little confidence boost. It also gives a lovely finish when applied underneath my Erborian CC Cream. The glow isn’t lost in the makeup application.

In total honesty, at this moment I can’t see myself immediately splashing £46 on this product to keep it in my life as much as I’ve been enjoying it to date. If I were to drop this type of money on a moisturiser I’d rather have the Elemis Superfood Midnight Facial. I find the Heimish Artless Glow SPF50 gives a similar effect to the Elemis Superfood Glow Priming Moisturiser but it does smell strongly and feels a little heavier on the skin. As a glowy finish is new to me I’m keen to explore more products but wouldn’t be surprised if I circle back to this one.
