July ’21 – A Round Up Of All The Samples & Free Items I Got This Month & How I Got Them

Somehow another month has flown by and it’s time to write a samples round up post. How we are halfway through the year already is completely beyond me. This month I received an incredible amount of products which I’m both really excited about and grateful for.

Mac Mascara – via Boots sampling. I’ve previously tried one mascara from this brand and really liked it so am looking forward to giving this a go.

Paco Rabanne Fragrance Samples – I believe this was also via Boots sampling

Paco Rabanne Aftershave Samples – This was from a sponsored advert. I save up aftershave samples for several months and them gift them to a friend as a little something towards a birthday or Christmas present.

Burts Bees Lip Balms – Burts Bees really generously offered 2 lip balms to anyone on Instagram who shared a photo of their existing Burts Bees products using specific hashtags. I received two full sized tubes of their balms in the post a couple of weeks later. I’m a serial lip biter when stressed so always have a huge stash of lip balm so these are hugely appreciated!

Bite Beauty Mascara – via Boots sampling. Mascara samples save me a lot of money on make up so I’m always grateful when I can pick them up!

Chanel Liquid Lipstick & Perfume Sample – via the Boots apps. Under the events section of my inbox there was an invitation to pick up a Chanel goodie bag with zero spend required. I believe this was account specific so not everyone got it. I also had an offer to pick up a free sample from Elizabeth Arden but sadly there are no counters for this brand locally to me.

Space NK Birthday Gift – I got 4 mini products from amazing brands like Sunday Riley, Drunk Elephant and REN for free with no purchase required by being an NDuldge member. It’s free to sign up to this loyalty scheme and a fantastic way to try new products. I picked my gift up in store.

The Body Shop Birthday £5 Voucher – I received a £5 voucher for being a member of their Love Your Body club which I really recommend joining.

PR or Gifted Packages

I am always incredibly grateful to receive packages like these. When I first started my blog in the midst of the chaos of lockdowns in 2020 I didn’t see this coming at all so never take it for granted. A huge thank you to the individuals and brands which sent me products and have given me the opportunity to try even more self-care goodies. I appreciate every one of you.

Peace Out Skincare

I’m really humbled to receive this 3 product set from Peace Out. I was in no way obligated to share or review but naturally will be as I love testing out new skincare and sharing my reviews. First impressions are how much I love their holographic packaging with the message “make peace with your skin”. This really resonated with me as I used to feel like I was waging war against my spots when I was younger and found that real skin acceptance and trying not to nuke my face was life changing!

Avene Cleanance Cleanser & Moisturiser

These were really kindly passed on to to me by Kara Olivia Beauty as she found they didn’t quite suit her skin. To stop them going to waste she generously posted me them to try out. I’ve used the Cleanance Comedomed moisturiser before with no complaints and am one week into using the gel cleanser.

La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF Products

Via La Roche Posay’s online skincare community I won a package of 3 SPF products. I believe I won this by uploading a photo to their gallery of my favourite of their products. I’ve previously tried a sample of their infamous SPF50 facial sun protection so am looking forward to opening a full size bottle to road test. Naturally in time full reviews will be on their way.

The Acne Pharmacist Gift Swap

I’m lucky to count Lydia, who is behind the amazing account The Acne Pharmacist, as a very good Insta-friend. Not only is her content informative and inspiring but she’s also incredibly supportive and always makes me laugh. We decided to have a little gift box swap. She sent me some wonderful vegan chocolate, non alcoholic cocktail cans, a conditioner bar and some new skincare products to try out. Regular readers of my blog will know just how perfect this package was given that I don’t drink alcohol, don’t eat dairy, am trying to make eco switches and frankly, I’m addicted to skincare. In return I sent her some dairy free chai latte cans we’d spoken about, some beauty and skincare samples and cans of Kombucha which I knew she’d enjoy far more than me.

Food & Drink

2 Litres Mighty Pea Milk – via the app Green Jinn. This stuff is long life, dairy free and whilst it isn’t my favourite milk it’s nice on cereal and I’ve totally got used to it in hot drinks. It retails at £2 per carton and I pick it up whenever I see it on cashback apps. So far I’ve got 8 stashed away in the cupboard. Once open a carton lasts me about a week so I’m covered for the next couple of months!

2 Vegan Sausage Rolls & A Sausage Bap – via Greggs and O2 Priority Moments. As this offer is available on a Saturday morning I tend to time running errands with this deal when it suits my schedule. It’s a nice mid morning treat. Sadly due to my intense work schedule lately I’ve missed out on the free Cafe Nero drinks this month but hopefully next month should be able to get back on those as I have some time booked off work!

2 Tubs Alpro yoghurt – via Green Jinn which meant I had some very cheap breakfasts. These cashback offers saved me £4.20 on a weekly essential I’d have bought anyway so this is amazing.

2 Vegan Probiotics / 1 Vegan Milkshake – again via the incredible Green Jinn app. I claimed the probiotics from Waitrose and the milkshake via Tesco. I love these apps for being such a great opportunity to try new products and they save me so much money on dairy free items.

May ’21 – A Round Up Of All The Samples & Free Items I Got This Month And How I Got Them

Somehow the end of the month has crept up on me again meaning it is time to sum up all the samples and free items I managed to get in May. I’ll be honest that May was an incredibly hectic month for me so unfortunately I don’t remember how I received many of these samples and there’s a high chance that I’ve forgotten a few! I’ve included the details wherever I can recall them. Checking out my posts on how to get beauty samples will help give a good general idea.

Gillette Pro Glide Razor – from Super Savvy Me

Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti Ageing Serum – from the new sampling service Woman & Home Beauty Counter. This is a lovely generous 5ml tube size so really great for thorough testing out.

Paco Rabanne Lady Million Fabulous perfume sample

Jean Paul Gaultier So Scandal perfume sample

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r foundation sample – via an offer running one weekend where you messaged the specified accounts on Instagram to be shade matched and then receive a link for a sample.

Fenty Skin Starter Set sachet samples

Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle perfume sample

Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue Make Up SPF 45 foundation sample and Watery Glow Primer sachet.

Rituals The Ritual Of Namaste Glow skincare sachet samples

Guerlain 3 x Perfume samples from Boots Sampling. These came in a beautiful little white pouch with gold brand logo on. I shall be keeping these to add to a beauty gift for a friend as they look so fancy!

Home & Food

Unilever Anti Bacterial Products

I received:

  • Hand sanitiser
  • Cif Eco Refill surface cleaner
  • Persil anti bacterial laundry detergent

I got all of these via a sponsored Facebook advert and am really chuffed. The hand sanitiser will obviously come in very useful. I’m a big fan of an eco swap and have some empty spray bottles from previous cleaning products so this is an easy win for me. I’ve been wanting to swap to reusable cotton pads but been very wary due to having very acne prone skin. Having this detergent to add to my washes, which is apparently effective even at 20 degrees, has given me the confidence to try these instead of just composting single use pads which I’m doing currently.

Off The Eaten Path 100g Pea Savoury Snacks – free after cashback via Checkout Smart

3 x Plantastic individual flapjacks – also free after cashback via the brilliant app Checkout Smart

2 litres of Minor Figures Oat Milk – free via Green Jinn after cashback. This is one of the best, if not the best, oat milks I’ve tried and the cartons are long life so whenever I see they’re free I pick them up. The offer came around twice that I spotted in May so I grabbed two cartons for the cupboard. Cashback apps have been brilliant for saving me money on dairy free items, it’s been ages since I’ve had to buy “milk”.

The Coconut Collaborative 6 Melt in the Middle Chocolate Puddings – I got really lucky by spotting they were offering these to the first 75 people to respond to one of their Instagram posts. I was really grateful for my timing! These arrived in the post in a large cool bag which I can see myself reusing for picnics in the summer and as I currently don’t have one this was an extra plus! The puddings themselves were very rich and sweet and turned incredibly liquidy once cooked.

Ironing Board – I managed to pick this up via the wonderful community app Olio where people list food or items they no longer need for free. I needed an ironing board and this will help me save some money by not having the buy one new.

Boots Health & Beauty Magazine

I’m a huge fan of this publication as I’ll always remember seeing unedited textured skin that somewhat resembled mine which is acne prone in one of the make up photoshoots which had zero connections to spots. It absolutely blew me away and I had to stop myself jumping out of my seat to run up to people waving this image at them saying “I could look like this!” as I’d previously always thought my skin, even with foundation on, looked profoundly wrong.

This is free to pick up if you have a Boots Advantage Card – if you don’t you need one immediately as it’s one of my favourites for saving money! They also have coupons at the back of the magazine for extra points or money saving offers.

5 Books To Read

I managed to find the time to pop to my local library to borrow 5 books to read which I found a great way to switch off before going to bed. I’ll often buy cheap paperbacks in charity shops but am trying to now only buy absolute favourites to save me both money and space. Libraries are a fantastic resource not only for physical books and magazines but free ebooks, audio books and more.

March ’21 – A Round Up Of All The Samples I Got This Month And How I Got Them

Lancome Lash Idole Mascara – from a sponsored Facebook advert. This is my second sample of this and the brush looks amazing so I’m excited to try it once my current mascara is empty.

Valentino Voce Viva perfume – from a sponsored Facebook advert

Carolina Herrera Very Good Girl perfume – from a sponsored Social Media advert

Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine perfume – this came beautifully wrapped in a paper bag with a printed postcard.

3 Dior Perfumes in a little gift box for Mothers’ Day – via Boots sampling. These were really beautifully presented.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume – via Boots’ sampling

Diptyque Perfume sample – via a sponsored social media advert

Lancome Genefique Serum sample – from a sponsored Facebook advert

YSL Black Opium perfume sample and foundation – from a sponsored advert. The foundation was an unexpected surprise addition to the envelope.

Si Giorgio Armani Perfume sample – via Boot’s sampling

Gifted Products

I’m hugely grateful to the companies mentioned in this post for sending me gifted products, it does feel like a bit of a pinch me I’m dreaming moment. Rest assured reviews for the 3 gifted packages I received will be appearing on my blog as soon as I’ve had a good amount of time to test run them. I’m under no obligation to share my views of using these but love reviewing beauty products so this will be happening in the near future.

Wild Refill – Sensitive Skin Zero Waste Deodorant – I was very generously gifted this product by Wild Refill. I’ve been keen to make more eco friendly swaps so am really grateful and excited to receive this product. A review will be on its way once I’ve had a chance to test run the deodorant!

Bolt Beauty Stackable – I was generously gifted this innovative skincare set from Bolt to try out and review. Their products all come in pretty single use biodegradable capsules and look like an absolute dream solution to compact skincare when travelling. Once again, I’ll be trying these out and posting a review of my experience.

Absorbzit Pimple Patches – I was approached by Absorbzit asking if I’d like to review their new product. I’m a huge fan of pimple patches, having previously written a comparison post about the brands I’ve tried so far, so I’m keen to give these a go.

Smacne Skincare Set – an account I follow on Instagram nominated me to receive this so I’m very grateful to Loving Laurel and Smacne for arranging for me to try the cleanser and acne treatment products. I’m particularly excited about the AHA / BHA Cleanser.

January ’21 – Freebie Haul. The Free Items I Got & How I Got Them.

As ever, the end of the month brings another freebie haul of all the things I managed to collect and where I picked them up from.

Dirty Cow Plant Based Chocolate bar – I got this very generous sample from SNUG furniture company by applying for a pack of their fabric samples for sofas. I’m always keen to find ways to save on dairy free so am really happy with this.

Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb Perfume – this came from a sponsored Facebook advert.

Clinique Moisture Surge sample – this again came from a sponsored Facebook advert. I was a little disappointed that this was just a sachet as I’ve used this product before on my acne prone skin in the winter and really loved it.

Rubicon 1l Drink – I picked this up in Tesco using the Shopmium app. The product RRP was £1.50, the Tesco Clubcard price was £1 and the Shopmium offer was try for 50p so by buying it this way it cost me nothing. The referral code “g2ye4k” will earn you a free tube of Pringles should you wish to get started with this brilliant app.

Seedlip Non Alcoholic Spirit – As I don’t drink I was really happy to see this sponsored advert pop up on Facebook. I’ve wanted to try this product for a long time but been partially put off by the price in restaurants etc as it has always been so close to alcoholic drinks!

L’Occitane £5 Hand Cream tin – Towards the beginning of January L’Occitane were offering a free £5 voucher with no minimum spend to new customers who signed up through referral links. I managed to pick up a referral link on Instagram and received free postage on my order as well for being a new customer. I’m really pleased with this and it will be a lovely addition to a birthday gift. This offer is no longer working as they’ve introduced a minimum spend for the referral.

8 cans of Remedy Kombucha – These were £3.50 per box of 4 in Tesco if you paid with a Clubcard. There was an offer on Green Jinn, a cashback app for food and drink, offering £3.50 cashback on 2 varieties so I got 4 cans of raspberry lemonade and 4 cans of apple flavour.

YSL Black Opium Perfume – I can only assume from another sponsored social media advert.

Dr Jart Cicapair cream from a sponsored Facebook advert in a generous sided little pot.

4 x Plantastic plant based flapjacks picked up from Tesco Express via a Check Out Smart deal making them entirely free instead of £4.80 total. I’m really pleased with these as often buying dairy free items can be very pricey.

Aveda conditioner sample from a sponsored Facebook advert. This arrived in a generous sided small tube.

Snug mystery box which I became aware of via an email. They sent me an iced sugar cookie and some new fabric samples.

Part 2: How To Get Free Make Up, Beauty Samples and Products

I’m writing this post as one of my favourite beauty clubs for free samples has come to an end – sadly The Debenhams Beauty Club is no more. I’ve had some incredible freebies from this loyalty scheme over the couple of years that I belonged to it so I am very sad to see it go.

That being said there are some new beauty clubs on the block so I wanted to provide a little update to my original guide post on how to get free make up and beauty samples . Although 2020 threw us some serious curveballs it did enable me to find lots of new ways to find freebies, many of which are included in this post.

Marie Claire Beauty Drawer

You simply sign up with your email address, fill in a huge questionnaire about your skin type, hair type and beauty preferences so they can match you with some samples. I’ve received three products from this scheme since signing up towards the end of 2020 including 7 hyaluronic acid serum capsules from Elizabeth Arden and a moisturiser from StriVectin.

Vogue Insiders

Again this is very similar to the Marie Claire Beauty Drawer and the Glamour Beauty Club. I signed up to this and filled in all my details about skin type, hair etc in the latter half of 2020. I have yet to receive anything to try yet but several accounts I follow on Instagram have shared deluxe samples received from this loyalty club so it’s worth joining!

Send Me A Sample

This a great service which enabled me to try a Nars mascara and lipstick last year. You simply sign up to Send Me A Sample and ask Google Assistant for “Send Me A Sample”. You can then request what they have available. This does include some food freebies as well as beauty ones.

Boots App

The Boots app will occasionally have offers through Boots Sampling. These typically appear for me under the “My offers > Top picks” section but they do go very quickly. In 2020 I was able to try It Cosmetics CC cream, Becca highlighter, Dior fragrances and many more. The most generous item I got from Boots Sampling was a 3 piece set of deluxe Chanel skincare minis.

Although primarily used for free or discounted food and household products I have used Shopmium, a cashback app, to get some free full sized hair products from Vo5. The app is really simple to use. You simply buy the exact product specified from the store listed, photograph your receipt, scan the item barcode and get reimbursed via a PayPal account. If you’d like to try this app the referral code “g2ye4k” will earn you a free tube of Pringles.
